There's good news and bad news in the Luzerne County Courthouse. The employees that may have been layed off until the end of the year have been spared. Everybody keeps working. But the decision means that some permanent layoffs will have to happen next year. in a sort of a "rob Peter...pay Paul" scenario, the county decided to go into debt next year in order to address this year's financial problems. Commissioner Maryanne Petrilla said there were a number of reasons why she changed to a "no layoffs this year" mode....including the threat that downsizing would've made to the reassessment project.
