Being thankful

Where does the time go?  Is it just me, or did it seem as though we went from summer to Thanksgiving in mere minutes.  Thanksgiving is the time to be thankful, so I thought I'd write down some of the things I'm thankful for this time around.  Obviously, I am thankful for my family and friends.  I am also thankful for my health.  Even though I acutely feel the effects of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy each and every day, I thank God for the last year and a half of laughs as well as the the good times my entire life.   Many people call peope like me survivors...heck, even people like me call us survivors.  I don't like the term, because surviving implies just getting by, and I don't want to just survive, I want to live.  Thank you God for letting me LIVE each and every glorious day.

There are other things I'm thankful for that affect my quality of life.  I am thankful to the American people for voting for Barack Obama for President.  I believe he will work for the hard working middle class Americans who have been ignored for a very long time.  Unfortunately, he'll be spending his first term cleaning up the horrible mess that's been left behind by the outgoing Administration.  Thank you voters.

I am thankful that the Luzerne County Commissioners are no longer the Dems vs the lone Republican.  Mostly, i am thankful for Maryanne Petrilla, who is looking out for what's best for the citizens in a very trying time.  The reassessment needs to be done, and it's not popular for any politician, but she's doing it well.  Thank you Maryanne.

I am thankful that the city of Wilkes Barre is changing for the better in the Downtown.  Now I just hope the guy who's running the City will get out of his insulated bubble and try to work with others, and at least try to be civil with those he disagrees with.  I am thankful that Mayor Tom Leighton has made some steps in that direction by calling our morning show a couple of times this year.  Now if he'd only drop the appeal of the Carey lawsuit.

Now  on a lighter note- to the turkeys this Thanksgiving...the people in the news that made this year a very interesting one for talk radio. Thank you to all the Presidential candidates, Sarah Palin, George Bush, Fr. Joe Sica, Bishop Martino, Senator Bob Mellow, Frank Shimkus, Greg Skrepenak, pistol packing local restaurant patrons, pistol packing soccer moms, and streaking Penguins.

I hope you have a happy and safe Thanksgiving.
