It was a great night for football fans…and people like me who usually only tune in for the Playoffs. For many years the Super Bowl was a Super Dud…..but things have certainly changed. I was thrilled with last year’s matchup…and this year’s proved to be even better. I really wasn’t invested in the outcome. In year’s past I had a very non rational reason for disliking Pittsburgh. I didn’t like Bill Cowher. No real good reason why. Well, he’s not coaching so I’ve warmed a bit more to them in recent years. My son wanted the Steelers, my husband cheered on the Cardinals and I was in the uncomfortable spot of being made to choose. I’m sure my husband understands why I said Pittsburgh. He’ll forgive me for it.
It wasn’t just the game that was great…but the entertainment was terrific. How neat to see the heroes of that plane that went down in the Hudson. It’s good to feel good about something. While the economy is on shaky ground, a happy ending is just what we needed. Weave that feel-good story into a great game.. add a dash of the Boss and you have something to smile about. How did Bruce do? I thought he was phenemonal…of course he didn’t need to work as hard as he did to outperform the new generation. All that running and sliding and crashing was sure entertaining..but I’m also sure his 59 year old bones are paying the price this morning.
One thing that didn’t measure up was the commercials. I was hoping for quite a bit more creativity between the game. In fact, I lost interest in watching the spot breaks after the first half’s disappointment. You pay that much for a spot, it should be memorable. Few were. My personal favorite was the Anheiser Busch horse love story. Of course, most of my male friends found it a little too cheesy, but what can I say…I’m a romantic.
The best part of all is that the game was done by 10:30 so I could watch it all, and get to sleep at a reasonable hour…with a smile on my face.
