While many tea protesters argue about the size of the crowd, I’d like to discuss exactly what it is they are protesting. The folks who went out in the tens of thousands to Washington D.C. didn’t seem to have a singular message. You got people upset about healthcare reform, others afraid of having their guns taken away, pictures of our President as Hitler, he’s called a socialist on some, a communist on others, pro-militia groups telling people not to worry ‘they’ll take care of it’. Here’s a sample of some of the signs proudly displayed at this event.
Where’s the long form birth certificate?,
Barney Frank is an immoral sexual deviant
This is God’s country, stop making it an Obama nation
Impeach the Mini Messiah
Bury Obamacare with Kennedy
Impeach the Muslim Marxist
James Clyburn Racist
Nice people forced to protest, we came unarmed…this time!
I bring all this up, because I’m sure that many Americans are trying to figure out just what the fuss was all about. The Republicans have shown that they will complain with anything and everything that is happening. Last week, they opposed our President talking to kids about the importance of education. It seems the GOP has an image problem. In PR, there’s something called K.I.S.S. which stands for Keep It Simple Stupid. I don’t know how many people were paying attention to what was going on in our nation’s Capitol, but if they were, they’re pretty confused.
It’s okay with me that the Republicans continue with this temper tantrum. It’s not making sense and it’s only making them look ridiculous. I almost hate to let them in on the secret that got Obama elected. Yes, there were people angry with Bush and the Republicans for a variety of reasons, the war, the tax cuts for the rich, the catering to big business, the privatization of Social Security, I could go on and on. But Obama won with a two simple words, hope and change. Now we can argue on the mistakes Dems are making right now by not following through on those promises, but that’s a blog for a different day.
The GOP is failing miserably in telling us what they are for, they have only told us what they’re against. The GOP leaders are not leaders at all. They have never taken any responsibility for dragging this county’s ass into the dire economic situation we are in today. They are the party that cried wolf, and only the fringe elements are buying their outrage anymore. If they truly cared about deficits, there would have been mass protesting years ago when the Iraq War hit the skids. The timing tells us everything.
I know that if John McCain were President there wouldn’t be Tea Party protests, there wouldn’t be outrage over John McCain talking to our nation’s school kids, and no Democrats in Congress would have called him a liar at a Presidential Address. Enough said.
