What does Sen. Casey mean by ACORN vote?

If you’ve ever had the pleasure of getting a mortgage the regular way, you’ll get a real charge out of some camera videos shot by two enterprising 20-somethings starring the employees of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. The group, better known as ACORN, is viewed through the indy lens of 25-year old James O’Keefe and his willing accomplice, 20-year old Hannah Giles.
The two have been tearing up the internet with some very provocative videos shot at ACORN offices in Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Brooklyn and California. Each time, the two have dressed outlandishly in the garb of a pimp and prostitute respectively, while going hat in hand and asking for loan money to set up a brothel.
Borat, eat your heart out. These two are straight out of a SNL parody, two wild and crazy kids with a scheme to import teenage prostitutes from El Salvador with a goal of funding James’ congressional run.
Now, here’s the funny part: The ACORN staff doesn’t even bat an eyelash when the pair makes a request for a mortgage, likely including some taxpayer funds, to grow their trade. It would be funny if it weren’t so sad. The ACORN employees devise ways the pair can launder money, claim child prostitutes as dependents, declare a career choice to make the business sound legit, and find “business” expenses to lessen the couple’s tax burden.
Enter the United States Senate, which on Tuesday voted 83-7 to block ACORN from receiving housing grants. One of the handful of senators who voted NOT to block the funding was Pennsylvania Sen. Bob Casey.
Here’s my email to Stephanie Zarecky, state press secretary to Sen. Casey:
Stephanie,
I see Sen. Casey was only one of seven senators who voted no against prohibiting the use of funds to fund the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN).
Can you expalin why Sen. Casey, knowing what is being revealed about their blatant disregard for taxpayer dollars and the three damning videos showing this group encouraging law breaking, did not vote to cut their funding?
Thanks,
Sue Henry

Here’s Stephanie’s response:
The reported actions by ACORN employees are inexcusable and should be investigated thoroughly by the proper authorities.

ACORN Housing, although affiliated with ACORN, is a separate organization and is legally distinct from ACORN. ACORN has never received funding from the federal government, while ACORN Housing in the past has been the indirect recipient of federal funding through programs under the Department of Housing and Urban Development to help low-income people obtain housing and to avoid foreclosure.

Senator Casey believes that when there is evidence that an individual or organization has engaged in criminal activity, that person or entity should be investigated thoroughly and, if appropriate, prosecuted.

Can someone with expertise in reading comprehension help me? I also missed several, make that all years of law school, so I'm never sure when I'm being dazzled with scholarly pretty talk. I welcome any and all interpretations at Suehenry@wilknewsradio.com
