To kick in the groin or turn the other cheek?

It wasn’t a big story in the paper, but the reaction we got on the air today to the wedding party fight at Mohegan Sun was amazing. It really was not meant to be a topic. I just mentioned the fight that broke out at the Casino this weekend when a jerk at the bar lifted the bride’s skirt and the groom took offense. He punched the skirt lifter, other wedding party members jumped in and a number of people were charged.
I don’t know the details…and they are important. I took the position that if some idiot at a bar lifted my skirt, I’d kick him in the groin, or hit him in the face. Kevin thought that was ridiculous, that a man should tell the creep that he was low class, but physical assault was not necessary.  I stated that most men would not stand by and allow such disrespect to occur. What’s important to know here is how much was exposed. If it was just a slight lift, with only the ankles exposed, I would have called him out loudly and asked the management to bounce the guy. However, if the skirt goes higher the gloves are off! I consider that sexual assault, and I have a right to defend myself. Should my spouse/date step in and start throwing fists?  Probably not, but I could understand why someone might.
Kevin argues that people who call themselves Christian should do as Jesus would do and walk away. I have a problem with that. Creeps who touch other people in sexual ways will just keep on doing it if someone doesn’t give them a tough lesson. Walking away gives them license to do it again. Some things are not black and white and this is one of those situations that isn’t an easy call for me. In fact, as someone who tries to step back and look at things rationally, I’m having a tough time with this.  I understand why someone would protect someone they love.  I know if someone did this to my daughter, I'd be more likely to lash out than if it was done to me. What do you think you would do?  I’d love to know. Email me at nancykman@wilknewsradio.com .
