Are you ready?



 
Gangster judges. Ghost workers. Row officers with no adult supervision. Daylighting. Teaching jobs for cash. Cash for contracts. Cash for kids. “I don’t have to answer that” council members. 61 percent attendance.  The condo.
The above phrases are a small incentive as to why you should vote tomorrow. No, you don’t get a free toaster. No, you don’t get a lottery ticket. You might get some poll cards. And, of course, you can derive some satisfaction, knowing that you have the ability to send some of the bad feelings about area leadership to the landfill.
Since the end of January, we’ve been riding the wave of corruption here, a situation so troubling that it’s been chronicled in papers around the world and splashed across national television. Columnists across the state have wagged their fingers at you, saying that someone should have known. Someone should have told.
Well, now you know. And, now it’s time to tell the rest of the world that we are indeed nobody’s fool.
What if we wake up on Wednesday and nothing’s changed? What if the same old people are comfy for four more years and smiling inside, knowing that anything can happen here and no one will care? What if it’s like nothing ever happened?
Read the first paragraph again. Is this what you want? If the answer is a resounding “no,” then vote for the candidates who will change our course.
Meeting and interviewing those who have a vested interest in our future brings me a sense of comfort. There are some fine men and women who have spent the last few months knocking and talking their way across NEPA. Their promise of breaking the mold and doing what’s right is the proper message at this time. Why not end the rubber stamp, no accountability mentality today?
If not, we might as well spend the rest of the year talking about Balloon Boy.
Do it. Take control.
