This healthcare legislation has become ridiculous. The latest is that Sen. Joe Lieberman alone has held out until what small bit of a so-called "public option" i.e. the Medicare buy-in at 55 was thrown out. Enough of Lieberman, he's not working with the Democrats. For decades, public healthcare for all has been the main mantra of the Democratic Party. To allow this legislation to be highjacked by a flip-flopping fool like Lieberman is outrageous. Democrats need to stand for something that really matters. If there's no public option, there's no competition, which means there will be no control of the spiriling health care costs we're all experiencing.
The insurance industry is winning this battle, the American people are losing. To dress this lump of coal up in a pretty package and pass it will hurt the Democrats for a very long time. Better to stand up for something and lose, than capitulate and pretend you won.
